Subject: PowerSchool cybersecurity data breach notification
Dear FCSD#38 parents, guardians, students, and staff,
We are writing to make you aware of a recent cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, a software vendor which provides Student Information System (SIS) data storage for the school district.
On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, PowerSchool informed our leadership team that they experienced a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to the district’s PowerSchool SIS data using a compromised PowerSchool backend support account.
PowerSchool informed the district that the compromised data included parent and student contact information, names and addresses, email addresses, some personally identifiable information (PII), social security numbers (SSN), medical information, and other data elements from the PowerSchool database.
Protecting our students’ data is something we take seriously. With PowerSchool’s help, more information and resources (including credit monitoring or identity protection services, if applicable) will be provided to you as it becomes available.
